A urology team will be visiting Vanuatu next month to provide medical and surgical treatment to Ni-Vanuatu nationals, free of charge.
Urology focuses on the urinary tracts (or commonly known as “rod blong pispis” in Bislama) of men and women, as well as the reproductive system of men.
The team consists of the following Australian specialists; Dr Richard Grills, Dr Berni Creati, Nurse Stuart Willder and Nurse Teresa Robinson.
Dr Richard Leona from the island of Pentecost in Vanuatu is also a part of the visiting team. Dr Leona has been undergoing further training and study with the urological team for the last two years and will be accompanying the team as part of his training.
Please consult your local health centre or health care worker to be referred to see the visiting team who will be at these health centers on the following dates:
Northern District Hospital, Santo: 11 and 12 June 2012
Vila Central Hospital, Port Vila: 13 to 20 June 2012
As well as providing treatment, the team will be working closely with local doctors and medical staff to develop their skills so that they will be able to provide urology services in the future.
If you would like to know more about the visiting team, please contact Dr Willie Tokon at the Vila Central Hospital on 22100.
